Here's the Coast Starlight arriving at Oakland 16Th Station sometime in the 1970s. There's been a few changes at this location.

And upon the train's arrival, that would be the busiest time in the Oakland depot all day. Lots of folks were boarding. Don't know how many were already on board. There was a line of taxis outside waiting for customers. The only time the parking lot was busier was on a Friday afternoon before the Reno Fun Train headed east.
