Roosevelt Washington

Before that massive landfill and garbage trains, Roosevelt had the wheat industry and a tug and barge ferry across the river to Arlington, Oregon.  The Roosevelt ferry was mentioned in a thread on the passenger forum, and I responded with memories of Ben Flippen and how did we call the ferry to pick us up.  The answer is in my old negatives which I just reviewed.

How the ferry worked pre-cellphone.  A later development was using the CB radio to call Ben.  His tug Estrillita and barge ferries cars and light trucks to Arlington, Oregon from Roosevelt.

Last time I visited in October 1974 the ferry was not running and the little tug was not present. Alternative a drive to Maryhill or to McNary to cross the river to the Oregon side. Note the buldozer named "Ben".
