Saluting roster shots (#14): NP at Tacoma
Author: santafe199

Art Gibson was in the US Army and on his way to a stint in Alaska. 64 years later we can look back get a glimpse of how the Tacoma roundhouse area looked. Thank God & Uncle George for Kodachrome

The best of both worlds - a roster shot in an interesting scene.

Yessir, in those days Bill might have settled on a "pure" 3/4 or 5/8 full frame wedgie. But very often Art tended to include some surrounding scenery & details. And I think a whole bunch of us are glad he did!

Real nice. Wish I would have seen more of the NP.

The roundhouse survived into the BN era that I was able to witness but what are those structures off to the left of the unit? I don't recall seeing those.

I am not sure either it's a classic NP scene though, awesome! The 231 was a long time Tacoma Division GP👍🏻

And the turntable (last I was aware) is still there. Up in Seattle, the old GN roundhouse at Interbay (Balmer) has been retained along with the backshop; most of the roundhouse is now office space apparently. Not too many left on the Class 1's these days...
