Question about the Chessie Steam Special trips
Author: 2839Canadian

During the Chessie Steam Special trips, how did the 2101 and cars get from Baltimore to Richmond, VA with the RF&P having a “no steam” policy?  Did they run down the Southern Railway to Charlottesville and then west on the C&O?

Didn't C&O/B&O own one third of the RF&P?  Perhaps it did operate on the RF&P.

We ran regularly on the RF&P with steam. No issue that I'm aware of. Ross Rowland

I know steam-powered  Southern Railway ferry moves ran from Alexandria to Richmond on the RF&P as I chased the 4501 and Savanna and Atlanta No.750 on the RF&P in the late seventies.  Bet you won't see steam on the RF&P now!

Using Chessie routes and trackage rights as follows:

B&O: Baltimore - JD - Anacosta
Conrail: Anacosta to Virginia Ave
RF&P: Virginia Ave - CR
SOU: CR - Orange
C&O: Orange - Gordansville - Richmond
