Nostalgia & History > Fifty Or More Years - PC (NYC) 4079Date: 10/17/20 07:14 Fifty Or More Years - PC (NYC) 4079 Author: refarkas It is mid-1968 in Painesville, Ohio where Penn Central 4079 (ex-NYC still in full NYC paint) heads a westbound passenger train.

Nice to see NYC passenger trains (even if it is barely PC). Gary Date: 10/17/20 08:24 Re: Fifty Or More Years - PC (NYC) 4079 Author: bobdavis That's a classic!
Bob Date: 10/17/20 09:10 Re: Fifty Or More Years - PC (NYC) 4079 Author: ironmtn A fine image. The simplified cigar-band paint didn't have the class and sophistication of the lightning-stripes, but when reasonably clean and in a nicely matched set (with the band all at the same height like this -- sometimes the heights didn't quite line up), it looked pretty darn good.
A neat catch too with the NYC covered coil car on the adjacent track to the left, with the coil covers lettered for NYC / PC subsidiary P&LE to boot. And a standard NYC whistle post, too. Overall, a classic, very well composed image. Thanks for posting it for us to enjoy. Was PC (ex- NYC) operating stand-alone Mail and Express trains by then? A lot of head end business on this train. Makes it look a little more "old school." |
