Forty Friday, EJ&E . . .

.   .   .   wait a minute you say, EJ&E didn't have any forties, well, I don't know how long they had them, or, if they were ever painted in EJ&E orange, but, in OCT '03, a pair of EJE lettered former UTAY RWY forties, were leading an eastbound coal train not far west of Joliet, IL. I am not sure I have ever seen a shot of these units before I ran across them on this trip, or since?

This almost qualifies for urban legend!

The EJ&E leased three of these starting in October 2001. The last two left the property in 10/2003. From what has been reported elsewhere, they were in pretty poor shape when they arrived on the J.

I echo that.  I've never knew about these units nor have I seen a photo of them until JB posted this shot.

In August 2002 my brother and I did a whirlwind tour around Chicago.  We briefly stopped at West Chicago on August 24 and we caught a few UP trains and then got excited that our timing was perfect, an EJE train was coming!  Then these things showed up.  I was hoping for some nice orange J SD38-2s.  Disappointing, but over the years this shot has grown on me.  Thanks for the memories.

Nice catch at West Chicago, only the second shot I have ever seen of these short lived units.
