Nostalgia & History > MKT working at HarrisburgDate: 11/28/20 12:12 MKT working at Harrisburg Author: gcm June 79
Down in the older part of Houston, a few Katy GP7 units have picked up a few cars and are headed to the SP crossing at Harrisburg. I came here every once in a while but didn't usually catch anything working. The crossing of the SP is an old one. The SP line was originally the Buffalo Bayou Brazos and Colorado Railway, it was built in 1853 (first operating railroad in Texas). At the crossing was a tower and station at one time (into the 40's). The Katy train is on the Galveston Houston & Henderson (MP and MKT). Out there was 60 lb rail, 5 mph speed limits, dirt for ballast and weeds to hold the ties together in dry weather. Never any wet weather railroading.

Interesting that all three units are GP7's but all are different. Thanks for the insightful and excellent posting. ALLEN Date: 11/30/20 12:58 Re: MKT working at Harrisburg Author: refarkas The commentary makes these even better.
