Missouri Pacific bought some GP40's after the Rock Island shutdown. One of them, #611 works in the yard at Gorham, IL with a B23-7 and a GP38-2 in June 1986.

They didn't buy them. The UP owned most of the RI GP40 fleet (and five of the C415's and 20 U28B's). They were returned to the UP after the shut down of the RI. The UP reassigned many of them to the MP after the merger.

The MP did pick up all but 4 of the 1976 built GP38-2's however.
