Number one puts me in mind of Novato but I don't see Hamilton. I'm going to guess inside the Ignacio Wye which back then would have featured highway 37-101 interchange. 

That cut in the hill in the background seems to me like a 101 feature. Pretty big cut. There are some like that up north of downtown Novato. There's also one near Ignacio.

I think you've nailed it! Here's almost the same location today. The cut is still there...

Does the Ignacio photo show the roof of the Ignacio depot above rear of the train?
