Nostalgia & History > Signal Sunday, Grinnel, Iowa, Along The Old Rock Island RoadDate: 01/10/21 12:04 Signal Sunday, Grinnel, Iowa, Along The Old Rock Island Road Author: FiveChime Sorry I was never here when Rock Island was there! Imagine they came screaming through Grinnel with old cast Nathan P5 horns blarring.

I used to dispatch that line - east of Newton we had a station named "Grinnell" with a depot and crossing like that - the same except that the siding's been removed... Take care, Mark Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/10/21 12:49 by mamfahr. They crossed the former M&StL, later CNW at this joint depot. That's what the signals are for. Today, Iowa Interstate crosses the UP here although you're more likely to see a train on the IAIS than the UP. Shot is from the west end of the depot looking east for those who are curious. Thanks for posting.

the MSTL/CNW/UP runs right by the campus. zr190 |
