This is my first attempt at posting his horn recordings.
Ken left a box of cassette tapes when he passed away.
I have been wanting to post some recordings for a while.
Those of you that knew him are aware of his love of air horns.

I had to figure out how to use the program "audacity" to excerpt
segments from tapes I had digitized.  Then the downloaded "audacity" would not save
the excerpted files to a format that TO accepts. That took some further study to download
some more options to audacity but I finally think I have it right.

Anyway the 4433 was a GP9 so in addition to the sound of an M3R1 you get to
hear an old geep wide open.  It sounds like this was recorded behind Ken's house
at 96th St.. An eastbound first heard whistling for Kedzie Ave., then 95th St. and after
it passes by his house it later blows for 99th St.

As far as the horn type I am going by what Ken had written on the cassette insert.

EDIT  Well I spent most of the day on this.
Many thanks to Evan Werkema for the tip that it has to be put in VIDEO form for TO to
take it.  So in addition to figuring out the Audacity program I had to figure out how to use
Windows Live Movie Maker. I added a picture of Ken staring down an M3 from the short 
hood of a GTW GP38 (photographer unknown)

Trainorders.com doesn't allow us to upload pure audio files (WAV, MP3, etc.)  We have to post them in a video format like MOV, MP4, etc.  That unfortunately requires a video editor of some kind.  I usually use a black slide with a title of some kind for the image part of the video:

4433 is still around, as an unmolested, GP9 owned by Great Lakes Locomotives..  It is currently on lease to an elevator in Wayland, MI.    Ill have to see if the owner still has her M3, if so, I might be able to arrange to get a fresh recording.  Our ex GTW SW1200 still has her GTW M3H, and it sounds amazing.   

When I first moved to Michigan, there was still a very small handful of GT/CN engines that had M3's.  All gone now..

Good to see the 4433 still kicking.

The horns on the GTW geeps were mounted on the front of the long hood.
I believe that accounts for the somewhat mushy sound.  

The BRC also used M3's but theirs were mounted on the cab.
It was fun listening to them.  The hoggers tried to keep them 
quiet by just letting a little air through the valve but usually at some
point it would get away from them and a loud blast would get out
for a second or two.
