Nostalgia & History > A Southern GP35 and it's second lifeDate: 01/12/21 17:42 A Southern GP35 and it's second life Author: EL833 If you would have told me back in February 1977 that I'd run across Southern GP35 #2671 in Akron again in 1992, but as a Wheeling and Lake Erie unit, I might have looked at you funny. The all GP35 set from '77 was on the former Erie Lackawanna, Conrail by then. They had pushed a stalled train ahead and are shown about ready to couple back onto their train. Fast forward to August 19th, 1992 and the 2671 is back in Akron, Ohio but on a different railroad and a different owner. The slide says local train CAA-3, not sure if that's correct or not. It's westbound on the former AC&Y turned W&LE, and in a couple of miles will pass under the old EL right of way where she ran so many years earlier. The 2671 would eventually get scrapped at LTEX.
