Nostalgia & History > ATSF Westbound between Walong and Woodford, 1989Date: 01/13/21 13:27 ATSF Westbound between Walong and Woodford, 1989 Author: ssloansjca Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 7449 leads a westbound east of Woodford, CA near milepost 350 on Sunday, May 14, 1989.ATSF 7449 is a GE B40-8. Reportedly ATSF 7449 was built by GE in 1989 as ATSF 7449 B40-8 serial number 45950, the last engine it its class. In 1995 it was wrecked at Tejon, NM and was repaired. It was renumbered BNSF 8639 in 2000 and subsequently became BNSF 597.

The second order of Dash 8's didn't keep those centered amber beacons for very long. Santa Fe started removing the beacons from their entire locomotive fleet later in 1989 and they were pretty much done by mid-1991.
