> I wonder if it had more stalls than in 1976. According to Santa Fe Locomotive Facilities v.1 - Gulf Lines, the Galveston roundhouse was originally 16 stalls. The brick wall to the right in gcm's photos would have been an original end wall, while the white, corrugated wall to the left filled the hole when the other 11 stalls were removed. A 1982 aerial photo shows the remaining 5 stalls still standing in 1982; the book says they were demolished along with the other structures seen in the background following damage from Hurricane Alicia in 1983. |
