ATSF 5697 is an EMD SD45-2. Reportedly ATSF 5697 was built by EMD in 1973 as an SD45-2 ATSF 5697 serial number 72642-11. In 1986 it was rebuilt to SPSF SD45-2u 7227. It was renumbered and repainted to yellow bonnet ATSF 5827 in 1991. It was renumbered BNSF 6477 in 1998 and subsequently renumbered to GN 6477.
2 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 5699, an EMD SD45-2, is at the engine house in Barstow, CA on Sunday, October 20, 1974. ATSF 5699 is an EMD SD45-2. Reportedly ATSF 5699 was built by EMD in 1973 as an SD45-2 ATSF 5697 serial number 72642-13. In 1986 it was repainted to Kodachrome 5699 and rebuilt to SD45-2u ATSF 5837. It was renumbered BNSF 6487 in 1998 and subsequently became NREX 6487. 3 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 5694, an EMD SD45-2, is at the engine house in Barstow, CA on Sunday, October 20, 1974. ATSF 5694 is an EMD SD45-2. Reportedly ATSF 5694 was built by EMD in 1973 as an SD45-2 ATSF 5697 serial number 72642-8. In 1986 it was repainted to Kodachrome 5694 in 1985-86 and rebuilt to SD45-2u ATSF 5853 in 1987. It was renumbered BNSF 6503 in 2000 and subsequently became NREX 6503. I always though SD45-2s, and ATSF SD45-2s in particular would good looking locomotives. Got to see the Super C a few times, and a foursome of SD45-2s always made it look like it meant business.

The last few units of the final order in the low 5700's were delivered with silver trucks. They are great looking locomotives. Any word on the fate of BNSF 6484 that was reportedly pulled from the deadline a few months back?
