6 More From Switcher Heaven
Author: MartyBernard

Every time I post switcher pictures someone comments, "There are never too many switcher pictures".  Well here's 6 more of very rare yard goats.

1. FTRL 257, photographer unknown. No other information.  I can't even find the Reporting Mark.   Help!

2. Lone Star Steel Company 12 in Lone Star, TX on November 26, 1976, Vincent J. Porreca photo.

3. NYCTA OL894 in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY on October 16, 1984, unknown photographer.

Marty, FTRL is the reporting mark. Stands for Foster Townsend Rail Logistics. They have a few units here and there. Along the Mississippi Rvr across from St Louis is one place, (An SD40 type Unit) and up in Ft Collins Co they did have another SW1500 unit working the Budweiser Plant a few years back. Not sure if that one is still around. Also the AT&L in Watonga/Geary Ok has a unit still in FTRL paint, the GP40 3001, I believe is the number.  AT&L is the Austin Todd and Ladd, supposedly named for the owners Grand Kids.  Ben

Marty, the UP TR5's have large fuel tanks which moved the air tanks to the top of the body.

In addition to Cajon, as Bob Krieger has noted, a caption in John Signor's Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad Company
states: "...Of the eight sets purchased, six were initially placed at San Bernadino, and the remainder at Kelso. In time at
least one of the sets was reassigned to Caliente to assist late running passenger trains and the eastbound hotshot CN."
