Nostalgia & History > CSX F units in HoustonDate: 01/15/21 07:39 CSX F units in Houston Author: gcm April 90
A few weeks ago Allen ( krm152) posted an excellent shot of two Clinchfield F units in 1976. Fourteen years later, I believe these are the same ones. As far as I know this was their one and only time in Houston (at SP Hardy St Shops). This was during the work week when I heard they were in town so after work grabbed my camera and hurried out to the shops. In town with a business car train, late in the evening the units were being serviced and were just starting to move back to the Amtrak station where the consist was. The second shot is looking east on the SP. Englewood Yard is a couple miles away with Tower 26 showing just beyond the bridge. Also just beyond the bridge is the passenger main from downtown (right). The units will roll backwards on the passenger main to the Amtrak station. Light was rapidly fading so I was glad to get a few shots and at least see the units. Always disliked having to wait until after work. Thanks for a most unusual photo posting. ALLEN Date: 01/15/21 19:57 Re: CSX F units in Houston Author: gbmott That would have been the evening of March 29, 1990. The train operated Atlanta-New Orleans on day 1, New Orleans-Houston on day 2, Houston-Memphis on day 3 with most people getting off there but the die-hards continued overnight to Nashville and then after a stop continued on back to Atlanta concluding day 4.
