This is the last time the exCGW shops held an open house a put some locos on display outside. The shops are closing and people laid off, so the vibes were not great but it was one last look at a proud railroad past. Shops are long gone but the yardmasters tower is still there along with CGW FP-7.

Author: ntharalson Without a view of the yard, compass north of the shops, it is vitually impossible to give you anything other than the approximate date of the shot. This is pretty much the way Oelwein looked hrough the 70's and 80's. Without my roster book available, I can't say for certain when the CNW picked SD45 6544, but mid-80's is about right for that.

Author: ntharalson Update: The CNW roster book by Withers and Strack says 6544 came to the CNW in May, 1983. Since it's now painted in these veiws, it's not unreasonable to assume it's sometime in 1984 or later.

Author: MILW86A I remember going to the Oelwein Open House in 1983 and 1984. 1984 they had the train rides. 1985 was the year 1385 came to Oelwein. I have some of Don Vaughns slides from that trip which I think I have posted here before.
