BB122: The Yampa Valley dwarfed by the Rockies
Author: valmont

On 3/3/68 BB took this long-range view of D&RGW's Yampa Valley. Having just passed the much photographed Tunnel 1 and Plainview, not far ahead the tracks will make a turn into the canyons and the 'Main Line Through the Rockies'.

Sure wish we could see anything like this again.  Glad Bruce got 'em.

Old D&RGW RR Denver based passenger train and engine crews worked to and from Pippsburg, CO.

So to the left off frame would be the bridge over Hwy 72 where the fatal wreck was whose year I don't remember? I Googled it and didn't come up with any results.

Well, way, way left off frame.  It's been a long time since I've been up there but I believe the spot that Bruce was standing at is towards the west end of the siding at Plainview.  The bridge over Hwy 72 on the horseshoe curve is a few miles away.

Did Bruce catch the train coming through Plainview?

This is at the west end of the Rainbow cut. The train passed here moments before and is now going over the west switch of Plain siding. If he got a shot here it would have been pretty backlit on the nose.
