       Not often we see a photo where a frog has been pulled out and the main is straight railed.

As usual, great pictures Marty.

Chicago Central GP20 has a bit more history.  Built as Milwaukee Road GP9 2398, then renumbered 248.  Rebuilt to GP20 966 by the Milwaukee in September of 1972.

Chicago Centrall #966 looks like it has been to hell and back.

Looks like the eastbound Amtrak Super Chief Tr.4 at Pasadena, CA.  Santa Fe had taken back some of the 300-class F-units leased to Amtrak and replaced them with F45's and FP45's in early 1973.  The cowls hung around until the first order of SDP40F's showed up in June.  Then, for a short time as the new units were breaking-in, photos like this of trains with three different types of EMD cowls on the point were possible.  The cover of Electro-Motive Division's Classic Cowl Units has another such view:
