Pointless arrow @ Ottumwa (oops... Burlington)
Author: santafe199

Here’s a slide you might shoot in 1975 and possibly not bother to put into a slide show of your ‘recent railfan outings’. About the only thing remarkable about this semi-cluttered overall yard scene is that bright red pointless nose contrasted against an overwhelming neutral-gray sky trimmed with BN Cascade Green hither & yon.

Fast-forward 46 years: NOW would you include this image an some sort of historical Iowa ~ Amtrak ~ BN (pick one) image presentation? HUH! Thought so… ;^)

1. AMTK 583 on train #6, the “San Francisco Zephyr” rolling through downtown Burlington*, IA on May 20, 1975.
(Original Kodachrome slide by James W. Watson)

Thanks for looking back!
Lance Garrels (santafe199)
Jim Watson (UP6900)

*Corrected by "popular demand" (see a few replies below).
Also added: This represents one of extremely FEW times I've seen Jim get any piece of info wrong. He did have "Ottumwa" stamped on the slide. But when you're railfanning your way through a given area it's very easy to slip a notch now & again. And as prone as I am to all those natsy tpyos, I can't EVEN try to score some "gotcha" points on Jim! ;^)
Yep I'm just happy to be here...

Looks great, green and red really pop out at you, but I can't place that at Ottumwa, is it possibly #6 at Burlington?

I would agree with some of the others that this is Burlington. You can read the name on the newspaper building behind the roundhouse.
Great photo from back in the day, thank you for sharing.

Crews downstream from West Quincy also worked into Burlington.
