Santa Fe Saturday
Author: BNSF-6432

As I scan and rescan some of my father's Santa Fe images with the newly aquired scanner, I figured I'd share some of the photos along the way. These are a few from the first box of ATSF shots starting in 1977 and on. Locations are various, mainly in Tulsa, OK but there's many locations from the trips he took.

1) Bicentennial 5704 leads a westbound around the west leg onto the Avard sub from Frisco's Cherokoee Yard at Tulsa, OK in September 1977.

2) A GP20 switches in the ATSF Tulsa yard north of downtown Tulsa, OK in May 1977.

3) Moving north to Joliet, IL; An intermodal passes by Union Station in August 1977.

That's Santa Fe's Tulsa yard office, which greatly resembled a depot.  I've seen a photo of the overall structure somewhere, but darned if I can find it now.  Santa Fe passenger trains used Tulsa's Union Depot, then shifted over to the Santa Fe freight house two blocks away on Elgin Ave. for the last few years of service.

Good stuff, thanks for posting.

A correction on #15 if I may.  The lead unit on the train is an U36C.  Santa Fe never owned a pure U30C, just the U30CG variations.  It's possible the trailing units are C30-7's although I can't remember the date on the photo.  If it's 1977 or earlier, they would also be U36C's.

I really llike the going  away shot No. 4.  The best paint scheme and locomotives and the semaphores.  Thanks for posting.

5704 still exists in a deadline in Texas. Last Sd45-2 I ran:(

and the turntable still works at Dodge City:)

It was reported that "GN" 6484 (ex-ATSF 5704) was rescued from being sent to scrap a few months ago along with the SD45-2B's that were also former bicentennials.  Where did it end up?
