Sunset Limited and a wigwag
Author: gcm

June 79
SDP40F 530 leads the eastbound Sunset Limited as it arrives in Houston.
Along with the last car - ex-California Zephyr Silver Lookout, the train
passes a couple of the still numerous wigwags existing in town.

When did Amtrak retire the Silver Lookout? Is their a wye in Orlando that they used to turn the train around?

This photo was taken well before the Sunset Limited was extended to Florida.

Very nice. Generally speaking, I didn’t much care for SDP40F’s in that color scheme... but that looks pretty sharp!

You wouldn't want it anyway.  It's been completely gutted and highly modified into a glorified RV.

I think this is Oliver St.  I seem to vaguely recall there was also a wig wag set at the Silver St. crossing as well.  Even back in 1976 I thought they were archaic and relics to be enjoyed.
