Nostalgia & History > Grand Trunk Tuesday - Maple Leaf in Evergreen ParkDate: 04/06/21 06:39 Grand Trunk Tuesday - Maple Leaf in Evergreen Park Author: Englewood Ken Lanovich photos
No info on slides Continuing with passenger train pictures in recognition of the anniversary of their demise in April, 1971. 1. The eastbound Maple Leaf with a nice sized consist at 96th St. in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Process date of September, 1970. Moving a little too fast for Ken's Argus C3 to avoid the high speed blur on the lead unit. 2 and 3. I assume these two show the engine consist for the night's eastbound International. That is certainly a late afternoon sun lighting up the area. Process date of October, 1970 Photo 2 has the 4952 on an Elsdon servicing track. Photo 3 shows the 4952 in the lead and the 4912 in trail, with a red flag in the knuckle, heading east (railroad west) at Kedzie Ave. on the "high line" towards Dearborn St. station. The International was scheduled to depart Chicago at 9:00 pm. I assume that the GTW, like many other roads at the time, had the engine crew for passenger trains go on duty at the point where the power was serviced. If anyone knows for sure I would like to hear about it. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 04/06/21 06:44 by Englewood. Also enjoyed hearing them "FLY" through Blue Island at 9:30pm with their time freight. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 04/06/21 07:17 Re: Grand Trunk Tuesday - Maple Leaf in Evergreen Park Author: kurtarmbruster Like that lead shot--nice-looking train, and no doubt a nice ride. Thanks for sharing.
