A Sunday Del Monte westbound through Millbrae, California, 1967.
Looks like first car is from a foreign railroad perhaps moving non revenue to SF.

The first car might be a former Chicago & Northwestern coach SP bought in the early 1960s.  I do recall seeing one in San Francisco lettered Southern Pacific prior to their repainting to SP silver with the tomato stripe letterboard.

Yes, it is a former C&NW car.  I remember seeing on on SP train #28, Overland, in the early 1960's.

I don't remember ever seeing a gallery car on the Del Monte - no doubt added in San Jose.

Yes, those ex CNW passenger cars were used on the Daylight and other traind but the Del Monte usually had one streamlined coach
and the parlor car so the odd car would of been an extra coach. I think it was deadheading.
The gallery car was added in San Jose, common on the weekend trains.

Cool pic of one of only three Ex-C&O coaches on SP.  C&NW traded their 3 RDC's to C&O for 3 coaches C&O 1664-1666 which became C&NW 3483-3485.  They became SP 2216-2218.  BSB

Aha!  That explains the fluting which I had never seen on a CNW car.  Thanks for the info.
