Still More SP Locations/Directions
Author: Art045

Good Morning - moving through the unknown locations/directions, here are three more: Mac Sebree's two shots of the "Del Monte" from April 1968; and, an unknown photographer's shot of the 9054 leading a train circa April 1980.  There are two more to post, which I'll include in a follow-on message.  As always, very much appreciate any/all help with these!  All the best, Art

As promised, the final two are Mac Sebree's shots of this FP7-led freight circa October 1969.  As with the others, thanks in advance for any/all help you can offer!  Have a great day, Art

The fortune teller helps us see into the past.  Twelve miles to Delhi with the highway on that side makes the location Keyes, CA.  The A.L. Gilbert elevator is still there: https://goo.gl/maps/jz51gV2B7uHPWP2W9

2 Del Montes are maybe San Bruno. The freight is at Mohawk, AZ, I believe

The current issue of the SP Historic & Technical Society TRAINLINE has an article about the Mohawk line change; that was an easy one to figure out having just read that.
There is also a compilation of all the locations of CTC installation on the Pacific Lines, including standard drawings of the signals and relay houses.  The Mohawk line change was done about the same time as CTC went through.
Thanks for sharing.

First car on the Del Monte looks like a barbershop-lounge.

Yeah, that must be 1960s San Bruno.
SP moved it down there around 1962 --
to get more parking?

Rare for just one A-Unit on the SP and would of only happened in the Valley.

Nice photos. Thanks for posting.

The first and second photos are definitely San Bruno, Calif.

Looks like that passenger F has an XMUG in tow.

I could go over there (San Bruno) today and get an "After" picture but you would not even be able to compare as one
hardly could from yesterday's Millbrae shots!

Looking photo 3 over, I belive it to be Steins, NM. The geography seems a better match, and note the partial milepost on the culvert - 112x.x. This would be right for Steins, but way wrong for Mohawk which was 793.7 at the east switch.

Steins, NM

Your right, its Steins. You can see the exit sign for San Simon in the background on I10

In the 1960s, it really wasn't rare to see a single F-unit pulling an SP freight in the San Joaquin Valley.

Photo 5: Appears the photographer just turned around to snap the picture of the same train as in photo 4 at Keyes. Train is running railroad west / compass north, parallel with Hwy 99. Looks like it is the late 1960s.

I agree. It's not Mohawk.

Correct. East end Steins, train is eastward.
