Nostalgia & History > Missouri Pacific GP18 leads in TexasDate: 04/22/21 06:58 Missouri Pacific GP18 leads in Texas Author: gcm June 79
Northbound between Angleton and Algoa Jct, this train is leaving the Kingsville division. Another GP18 along with a couple SW1200 units are in the consist. The switchers are probably headed to the MP Settegast shops in Houston for servicing and repairs. Bob Date: 04/22/21 09:53 Re: Missouri Pacific GP18 leads in Texas Author: King_Coal Great photo. That would be "Brownie" siding (for the Brownsville Sub.} Many trains stopped to do walking 100 mile inspections at Brownie before hotbox detectors became the standard.
The SWs were used in Freeport and Bloomington when I arrived in 1980. Most other local jobs got some sort of GP. The GP18's were not long for the world either. They left in 1981 or 82 IIRC as GP38-2s and GP-15s became more plentiful. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/22/21 09:54 by King_Coal. I do wish I could have gotten over my disdain for drab dark blue and shot more Mop than I did, when I had the chance... :^(
