When did the Norden snowsheds burn?
Author: Copy19

I took this series shots of a westbound SP freight entering the snowsheds at Norden, CA, I think in 1962 as that is the year I bought my first car, a 1958 Chevy Bel Air.  However in researchlng the fire there, I see references to 1961.  I understand that the 1961 fire burned a portion of the sheds.  I don't see any fire damage in my shots.  The fourth picture shows, I think, that the portion over the turntable is still intact.  Can anybody help me on the sequence of fires and dates?

November 14, 1961. I believe the sheds in your photo survived. Anything west of the turntable bit the dust.

Here's a couple I shots I took at Norden a couple of weeks after the fire. Looking across the turntable towards the station and looking out of the shed towards the depot.

Your first photos were taken from the hill on the right, above the entrance of this first shed.
Then you moved back to about opposite where the second shed on the left began.  All the sheds in the foreground of your photo (just east of the turntable)  had been removed by the time I shot this in the winter of 1984-85.

In #4, those sheds on the Number 1 track were tore out that same year by order of D.J. Russell on an inspection trip with R.D.Spence who was Sacramento Div Super. What burned down became concrete

Ok guys.  I am comfortable with my 1962 date.  I have a set of Blue Canon 1962 coming up.  Tnx.
