Nostalgia & History > Varied group of railcars in Granite City,IlDate: 06/13/21 09:36 Varied group of railcars in Granite City,Il Author: gcm June 90
I'm not sure what yard this was but WR Tower can be seen in the distance on the left (1 and 3). Granite City is near St.Louis. Anyone know where these cars and units were headed ? Along with the two RDC units, a possible ex-GM&O baggage car along with a C&O heavyweight RPO/baggage. There is another baggage car off to the left. I was curious about what happened to them. Gary Date: 06/13/21 10:42 Re: Varied group of railcars in Granite City,Il Author: ClubCar Gary, that first yellow painted baggage appears to be in the Chessie Steam Special Paint Scheme as I can see both the vermilion and the blue besides the yellow. My guess is that some private owner purchased these cars but alas, I have no idea where they went.
John in White Marsh, Maryland Date: 06/13/21 11:54 Re: Varied group of railcars in Granite City,Il Author: RDG96 The yellow car is C&O 914100, former PC100, former C&O 209. It was used in the Chessie Steam Special and the Safety Express.
The car coupled to it is C&O 914101, former PC101, former C&O 34. Both C&O cars were converted to power cars by the C&O. Date: 06/13/21 11:58 Re: Varied group of railcars in Granite City,Il Author: SilverPeakRail The RDC's appear to have NJ Dot (pre-NJT) logos in the window bands.

Granite City, IL was really a railroad center; the Oct 1969 Official Guide listed 15 railroads serving that location. ALLEN Date: 06/13/21 14:15 Re: Varied group of railcars in Granite City,Il Author: gcm Thanks everyone for the car info.

You must have a room full of old maps and drawings. I really enjoy seeing them. Gary |
