Westbound through Martinez 1970's

Before the age of drones you had to seek a high elevation to get an aerial view. Case in point this westbound rolling through Martinez.

Yes, I noted that too-  SP seemed to favor center sidings, Donner had several of them scattered over Donner- all gone now.  I should think they were pretty handy when moving light helper power in steam days.

On the eastbound block signal note the two "letter type Indicators" was there a hot box detector to the east or was there some other use for these?

Believe they might have been associated with eastward movements warning of westward train loading/unloading passengers at Martinez station.
