Nostalgia & History > UP C40-8 #9240Date: 06/18/21 16:07 UP C40-8 #9240 Author: bodkin6071 Two month old UP C40-8 #9240 is at Cheyenne, WY on December 5, 1988.
Notice the two different styles of trucks under it. One on the front may be from a U30C or some other older GE, and the rear truck is a GSC truck, standard on the C40's. I have seen pictures of several other UP C40-8's with these two different style of trucks. What gives? Vincent J. Porreca slide Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/18/21 16:08 by bodkin6071. Plus with all the mergers of the mid-to-late 90s, UP had a bunch of newer power in the Dash-9s. Even the Dash-9s haven't been used in what feels like a decade. Their trucks were reused under the new Dash 8s, and included versions from both Adirondack (the supplier on the front truck in this pic) and GSC (supplier for the rear truck who continued to provide new trucks into the Dash 7 and 8 era). The trucks from both suppliers look a bit different but are functionally identical and were often mixed together on a single engine by many railroads.
