BN GP 7/9 cab question
Author: BNModeler

Having a fuzzy memory, did BN have any GP 7's or 9's with the angled emd cab roof, not the rounded cab roof as built

I don't believe any GP7's or GP9's had angled (I believe commonly referred to as the Spartan cab introduced on the GP35 era units) cabs when built.   The BN didn't have any GP7's or 9's built with factory low noses either.

The closest thing BN had to that were 10 GP20C's rebuilt from GP20's with Caterpillar prime movers and angular cabs:

Well if you want to use a technicality, EMD rebuilt 3 BN GP9s into BL20-2s. They looked like baby GP60s.

In the early 90s Morrison Knudsen rebuilt many early BN Geeps to GP28M light road switchers, which have an angular cab and carbody similar to a GP35 or GP38 on the older style frame. Most of these locomotives still serve BNSF.

Weren't those GP30/35 and 40s turned into GP38?

BN didn't roster deturbocharged GP30, 35's or 40's. You might be thinking of the GP39E, GP39M, and GP39V locomotives rebuilt by EMD, Morrison Knudsen, and VMV, respectively, which retained their turbochargers.  The GP28M's and GP28P's were rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen from GP18's, GP9's, and "GP5's" (locomotives that looked like GP9's but built by EMD using components from traded-in FT's and rated at 1350hp as a result).  The GP28M's and P's reused the old Geep frames, and are noticeably not as long as a GP30/35/39/40.
