Nostalgia & History > Cajon in the Late 70's early 80's.Date: 07/20/21 10:31 Cajon in the Late 70's early 80's. Author: tehachcond Here's three I shot at various dates on California's famous Cajon Pass.
1. A well-worn EMD Geep-30 heads up a westbound at Summit in 1979. The train is about to descend the 3% grade of Main #2. Looks like the UP set out a bad-order unit in the house track off of Main #2. Notice the Chessie and B&O units in the consist. 2. In an undated shot, the westbound Kaiser Steel coal train drags up the grade just west of Hesperia. Those EMD SD45's are really showing their lugging ability. 3. A pair of EMD GP35's shove an eastbound around the famous Sullivan's curve. 1983 photo. Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome. Brian Black Castle Rock, CO. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/20/21 10:32 by tehachcond. Kent in CArmel Valley Date: 07/20/21 10:58 Re: Cajon in the Late 70's early 80's. Author: GRNDMND A nice trio Brian. The Chessie Sysytem loco were being leased by Santa Fe at that time. They changed the numbers as Santa Fe already had locomotives in the 3600/3700 classes. They simply changed the lead "3" to a "9", thus no conflict in the computer or visually.
