Nostalgia & History > Newly Rebuilt SP 7110 in the Snow at Black ButteDate: 09/15/21 19:42 Newly Rebuilt SP 7110 in the Snow at Black Butte Author: JanGAustin These two units are rebuilt Morrison Knutson GP 40-2s that were redesignated as GP 40-2M. they were just cut off from the head end of SP 4449 that was on its return trip to Portland from the California State Rail Museum's 10th anniversary celebration. I had just got out of my van and got set up to take the picture when my wheelchair got stuck in the snow. Just as these units pass by going northbound up at the top of hill coming around the bend was a slow moving freight train in the siding. We were nervously hoping that the water tender would be filled and the GS4 would blast out of there, but as my luck would have it all we saw was smoke and steam going by above the boxcars.

I still remember the first time I saw my first speed lettering unit. It was on the point of Amtrak around June or July 1991. -Lee Date: 09/15/21 23:14 Re: Newly Rebuilt SP 7110 in the Snow at Black Butte Author: Mr-Beechcroft Very nice. Sure miss the old SP.
