Nostalgia & History > The snowfighters return home at the end of the day 1997Date: 10/10/21 12:51 The snowfighters return home at the end of the day 1997 Author: gonx This was UP's first winter after taking control of Espee's Donner Pass.
UP quickly discovered that SP did need to use rotary snowplows when conditions on the Hill warranted their use. I believe this was SPMW 210 and 211 set. It was all SP power save for one lone UP sd40-2. This set moved very slow, maybe restricted to 12 or 15 mph. There were 3 freights behind it and the Roseville Sub dispatcher was having a fit. Even the local (Rocklin Rocket) was told to hiball the switching at Rocklin in order to get the following trains into the Roseville yard.
