I may well have put mail on that train that day as I was regularly assigned to do so
by the Santa Clara post office. Thanks for the good memories !

Great shot. Was Millbrae switched by a job that only worked MIllbrae or did it cover a few zones as part of its duties, maybe taking a drag of cars back to Bayshore and tying up there?

The local that worked Millbrae in the 1970s came from Redwood City and spent most of the day in the Millbrae industrial area, then in early afternoon returned south often working
the aggregate plants at Howest and San Mateo.
Here is a photo of RS32 4004 in the center siding at Millbrae having just arrived from the south.

Thanks a lot Jim for the explanation and the great photo. Interesting how today Redwood yard is sort of the main yard for the Peninsula.

Do you happen to know how the Millbrae local's cars got to and from Redwood City--Newhall or Bayshore? Nowadays there's a capacity issue there its not quite big enough to handle the dirt cars and everything else, even with the traffic so much smaller.

Is that first  car behind the loco articulated?  It 's likely a baggage and Post Office car, either way.

Thanks, Norm

No, I think you're just seeing the shadows of overhead wires on the car.
