Nostalgia & History > Grand Trunk TuesdayDate: 11/30/21 10:23 Grand Trunk Tuesday Author: jgilmore The Wyandotte Puller is seen working Ford Yard south of Detroit while an ex-PLE GP38-2 idles by the office. Ford Yard was an industry-support yard for several industries in the area, mainly McLouth Steel (a big integrated steel mill in Trenton which closed in 1996). This was along the ex-DT&I River Sub, their original mainline into Detroit before the Dearborn Branch (Rouge) and the Shore Line connection brought most traffic to Flat Rock, but by the mid-80s you could see the industry decline by closed factories, rusty spurs and open tracks in local yards as well as shorter and less frequent Pullers from Flat Rock. With McLouth long gone and Great Lakes Steel now mostly closed and with so little left along the Detroit River I wonder if the River Sub will survive...
