In #2, that appears to be a coaling tower in the background. That might help someone id the location. It could be Decatur, IL in the Wabash yard since the passenger trains go east/west on the south side of the yard with a similar coal tower in the right place. That would also match the sun angle. I am familiar with the site and just looked in the book "Wabash Trackside" and they have a picture on page 92/93 that clearly shows that possibility.
