That must have been a screwed up day. We had so many. SKM wa a night train, something like 930p on duty at Interbay. No 88 should have been at Sky for 1008, maybe Scenic. We had one guy from Maple Valley who last worked the Seattle office when Sky-Wenatchee was electric. He would forget about the blow, run 88 through ahead of 1008, then remember the blow and tell 1008 to close all the ventilation in the train, they were going through the smoke. Thus, 88, if on time, may be in the tunnel already. In the office, SKM was pronounced scum. That offended our Springfield Asst. Supt., who insisted that it was pronounced skim, as in skimking lightly along the countryside. We continued to pronounce it scum. TAW |
