I hadn't noticed before that the classic stock GP7 has no MU, and I wonder why they offset the bell! Brian N. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/04/21 03:33 by briancdn. Date: 12/04/21 06:10 Re: Some more BRC 1979 Author: Englewood briancdn Wrote:

In his book " One Man's Locomotives" Vernon Smith relates that when he ordered the BRC GP9's in 1955 they were no frill locomotives because of the limited money authorized. No m.u. or even roller bearings. Perhaps the same applied when the GP7's were ordered. No answer for the bell placement. BRC engineers were always easy on blowing those beautiful M3 air horns. Usually only enough air was used to make one or two of the bells sound. Looking at the position of that M3, only a couple feet from the engineer's head, it is understandable. Edited 1 time(s). The GP7 also has friction bearings. Believe MKT was the only other road to order GP7's with Blomberg riding on friction bearings. Thanks for your photo posting. ALLEN |
