The first photo is from the Illinois Digital Archives and this is their caption:
"A later view of the Rondout train depot in 1953. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (CMSt&P) was also know as the Milwaukee Road. The Hiawatha train waiting at the station was one line of reduced weight, streamlined train cars that focused for the first time on passenger comfort."

The EJ&E crossed the Milwaukee Road on diamonds and that's reason for the odd shape of the depot.  I'll bet half of you have already looked at the agent's car.

The second photo is a look at the back side of the depot.  That's MILW GP9 200 with a commuter train to Fox Lake, IL on April 15, 1963.  My photo taken from the North Shore bridge.

Great historic photo.  Probably should change the caption from "waiting at the station" to "passing at a very high rate of speed".  BSB

Would that be the North Shore  bridge in background??

Niceshot!! Old thre Milwaukee Road RR Milwaukee, WI based passenger train and engine crews worked between Milwaukee and Chicafgo.

Whether trains ever stopped there was in doubt?

I knew the depot was opposite the tower, but I never knew it was other than a simple rectangle shape until I saw image #1.  To me, the shape indicates they were 'expecting' passengers on the EJ&E at some point in the future?
