Switcher Saturday - BAR 31
Author: refarkas

Here is another view (Last Saturday was the first view.) of a leased Bangor and Aroostook switcher working the Leheigh Valley yard in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on July 8, 1973. This scene with BAR 31 and so many of these fallen-flag freight cars can not be repeated today. Only one Union Pacific boxcar is not from a fallen flag.

What a great look into the past! Thanks for posting! Looks like my Lionel layout from years ago, one box car from a bunch of different railroads!

Classic yard scene! What railroad is the boxcar with NB on it?

Amazing how much has changed.
A great picture of railroading in the past.
Just look at the brakeman on the pilot footboards without a yellow safety vest!

Great set of cars.  1973 I worked on the Milwaukee Road and there was no use of foot boards.

Very nice. No two cars alike.

The switcher might have been the focus but the collection of cars is awesome!

Yes indeed.  Northampton & Bath.  Once located in the cement district a few miles upstream on the Lehigh River from this former CNJ yard.  Most of the line is now a trail.

Sure like all the boxcars in the yard background.

Very nice view of BAR #31,  The photo also provides a good view of rolling stock around in 1973.
Thanks for your very interesting posting.
