When they were new . . .
Author: 3rdswitch

.   .   .   every unit out there was new at one time, no matter how ratty they look today or yesterday. Here, in AUG '91, a CNW train was doubling over sticking it's head end almost into Sheffield interlocking, on the east side of Kansas City, MO, with a very new GE leading.

Great almost 3-D image - The new unit on the point makes it even better.

Really nice compared to the dirty engines we see today.

Good one, JB!  I like that Northwestern GE on the point. Would the bridge in the background be the UP Sheep Jump?
And if so, I commend you getting into this point. I've tried, and the attempts did not turn out well (long story, best left untold). Ahem...no questions being asked as to how it was done....

Lovely. I thought this was fresh out of its repaint -- the first batch of these were repainted at Mid-America Car in KC in 1991, after being delivered in Zito -- but I stand corrected; this one was delivered in 7/1991 and must have been on one of its first trips. Great catch.

Yes on the UP, not a clue about a repaint? Looked new to me.

Yeah, it's new -- some of the other CNW dash-8s got repainted very early in their lives, at roughly the same time this one was delivered, so I was just confused for a moment!

Fine shot of a fine looking engine!
