 In a second the smoke from UP844 (or was it 8444 then?) is going to hide SP4449.

Fantastic, photojournalistic image! The trains look like they are racing, with heavy surveillance.

I can't begin to decide on what could be the best title, if you asked me to.

Nice catch and great shot!

Actually it was not a race as we were in contact with each other and ran side by side each taking turns at leading until 4449 had a problem and had to stop.
It was fun and sure put on a show for the fans.

Remember seeing news about it in one of the rail magazines, sure wish I could have seen it in person. Too bad we can’t do an SP, UP, and ATSF 4-8-4 “race” up Cajon.

Truly a memorable event; glad I shot video as well.  Since you asked, I added two more race photos.
This event clearly tied up an adjacent interstate highway but you could ride on the shoulder and use nearby roads to get ahead.
Mr. Krieger, you may recall Steve Lee asking Doyle MacCormack if he felt the earth shaking during the race.  And possibly the cause of this shaking?  If so, could you say it more delicately than the actual response?
