Caption these crazy spark arrestors!
Author: santafe199

OK... so they’re not really spark arrestors. If they were, you could call them “spark arrestors on steroids”. Either way it oughtta make for some interesting captions! Have fun...

1. AT&SF 2249 sits at the RH in Emporia, KS on January 21, 1981.

Thanks for playing!

Like stack extensions on old Santa Fe steam locomotives, they work good until somebody forgets to lower them

I got a new RAM pickup the other day, it has a 6.7 Cummins diesel, with the DEF & Selective Catalytic Reduction systems underneath, but it lays horizontal. I kinda like the vertical twin stack idea on the Geep.

Answering in one stroke the crew complaints that Santa Fe's rebuilt GP9's didn't have enough sand capacity and weren't heavy enough.

So if horizontal tanks on the roof of a geep are torpedo tubes...are these flak guns?

Sudden inspiration: With deference to Alistair MacLean's 1957 novel (& the 1961 follow-up film) "The Guns of Navarone", these could be called The Guns of Emporia???
