Nostalgia & History > NYC 49 (not 48)Date: 05/08/22 10:29 NYC 49 (not 48) Author: aehouse In the late 1980s, Amtrak train 303, The Ann Rutledge, is on St. Louis's highline along the Mississippi River. Trailing the consist is the privately-owned former New York Central tavern-observation that was thought to be NYC car 48. Years later, it has been definitely identified as the former NYC 49--the numbering mix-up occurring when the car was sold by the Kansas City Southern to a private individual after KCS passenger service ceased. After passing through a number of private owners, the car is now in the collection of the Baltimore and Ohio Museum in Baltimore. (My photo).

Bob Date: 05/08/22 11:57 Re: NYC 49 (not 48) Author: ClubCar Here is a photo of the former NYC observation car at the B&O R.R. Museum in Baltimore disguised as a B&O observation car titled "The Royal Blue." This was a disgrace as there were some volunteers at the museum who told people that the car operated on the B&O and that it was a genuine Royal Blue Car, thus giving the public incorrect information. The B&O never owned that car and the famous "Royal Blue" train operated up until 1958 with an all heavy-weight consists of passenger cars with an observation car like the one in the second photo, either B&O 3301, 02 or 03. The 3302 is now the lone survivor and is still sitting in the B&O Museum front yard collecting rust, a real shame. Thanks, Art, for your photo of the NYC car on the back of the Amtrak Train,
