3 of Union Pacific U-Boats (GE U25Bs)

1. UP GE U25B 625 built Aug. 1961, retired Sept. 1972 and scrapped by Morrison Knudsen at Boise during October 1981, at Denver, CO in June 1964, Al Chione photo.

2. UP GE U25B 626 built Aug. 1961 and retired Sept. 1972 at Council Bluffs, IA on March 30, 1966, Al Chione photo.  Utah Rails says UP 626 was scrapped by Morrison Knudsen at Boise during October 1981.

3. UP GE U25B 636 plus 2 C&S SD9s and another U25B leased to C&S, southbound leaving Denver, CO in May 1970, Al Chione photo.

Pretty typical of GE's as until recently they seldom had second careers, unlike EMD's (and even Alcos). I'd guess the very, very early U-Boats would have been particularly problematic. But yeah, I would have liked to have seen one of these in the flesh!

That's an interesting photo of the 636 on the C&S without the Union Pacific spelled out on the nose.   That wasn't removed by the scanner filter was it?  

You don't see too many photos of the high nose U25B's leading a consist like that from that angle.   Being mixed with Burlington power is a bonus!
