Nostalgia & History > A SDP40F Becomes a SDF40-2 5254Date: 05/19/22 11:23 A SDP40F Becomes a SDF40-2 5254 Author: MartyBernard Amtrak SDP40F 635 (Photo 1) was built in July 1974. She was rebuilt as AT&SF SDF40-2 5254 (Photo 2) in September 1984, became BNSF 6964 in February 1998, and was retired in May 2002.
The major visual difference after the rebuild is the addition of a front porch for the freight version. This required some metal bending and short ladders. 1. Amtrak 635 is shown with Train 48, the westbound Lake Shore Limited in Utica, NY on Jan 21, 1977. 2. AT&SF 5254 is shown above Mojave, CA on September 4, 1990. Edited 1 time(s).
