Would have liked to have seen a GP38 in SP&S colors but they were delivered to BN after the merger.

I seem to recall that group of GP38's were the first new units delivered in full BN paint and were used in BN promotional photos at the time as a result.

That is all correct.  EMD Styling and Painting diagrams exist for these engines as they would have been delivered to the SP&S, but they were originally painted black and green, the first such new units.  At least three of them made a trip together all the way to Portland, with many promotionall photos taken, including the 1971 calendar (it couldn't have been a 1970) with a photo of them at weather rock on the SP&S.  That photo has some SP&S wood chip cars behind the engines, but with the large lettering blotted out.

Thanks to all you fine photographers out there who periodically post SP&S photos.  We deeply appreciate that.

Had one of those DIC at Lindenwood Yard in St.Louis about 6 years ago, it was heading to MEI for the GP39-3 program.
