Back when the 800s were still running, I happened upon the substation at the shops and the door was open. I carefully entered and was met by one of the CSS&SB electricians doing routine checks and maintenance on the two mercury-arc transformers there. They both had an ominous, though 'gentle sounding', hum about them. Suddenly, the hum got much louder and the floor started vibrating from the hum. He said one of the 800s must have just hit the circuit! He also noted that the 800s could not raise both pantographs as they would overload the substations and possibly cause damage. Unlike the 700s, they also could not be MU'ed to any other motors due to the power drain. But then, they didn't have to.
